Jaipuriar boys shine at Model United Nations in New York
Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nation agenda. The participants role play as diplomats representing a nation or NGO in a simulated session(committee) of the United Nations, such as the Security Council or General Assembly.650 students from around the world attended the conference. Jaipuriar students Ameet Rahane and Akshat Yadav were fortunate to attend the Indian International Model United Nations (IIMUN) conference which was held at the UN Headquarters in New York City. It was a thrilling experience for them to be able to attend a model United Nations conference inside the temple of international diplomacy. The most important event was the hoisting of the Indian flag on the ramparts of the United Nations to celebrate our 70 years of independence. They were in the United Nations Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) representing the state of Qatar. They discussed various issues of international importance including abortion rights, homosexuality, fundamentalism, etc. They also came up with solutions to tackle these problems. In fact, their solutions were sent to the actual UNHRC for them to review and know about what goes in the minds of the youth. At the conference, they also had a chance to interact face to face with famous personalities including celebrity Master chef Vikas Khanna and Miss America 2014 – Nina Davuluri. Apart from the conference, they were also taken for sightseeing in New York City, Washington DC and Orlando. They visited a number of museums, world heritage sites and memorials. New York was breathtaking and awesome. The sight of Lady Liberty overlooking the entire New York City was just awe inspiring. Truly, this experience was one of its kind for them and they look forward to more of such experiences in the future.
